Get an on your feet overview of commedia dell'arte! Try out character walks, partner stunts, and masks of the commedia dell'arte characters as you improvise in a group and partner setting. (This intensive is generally spread out over the course of 6 weeks or more)
In this workshop the spirit and soul of this Italian Renaissance theatrical form embarks on the 21st Century as you explore archetypal characters, mask, acrobatics, and improvisation. Learn the walks and typical lazzi of the Magnifico, Innamorati, and Zanni, along with partner stunts, improvisation, and mask work as this form unfolds in the modern world. Develop your own modern day versions of the commedia dell'arte characters, make masks, and create a performance. (Generally 1-3 days)
The focus of this workshop is the mask: the body that holds it and the character within it. Learn how to move and communicate to the audience through your body, while developing your own sense of character. Masks are provided.
